Innovative Prevention Models to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse

Preventing child sexual abuse has always been challenging due to socio-economic barriers, busy schedules, and willful blindness.  As concerned citizens, we need to think out of the box and create innovative solutions. During this seminar, we will review two programs which are in process: 

  • Erin’s Law – providing children with the tools to protect themselves from child sexual abuse and developing an environment of awareness and prevention for the community.  Legislation was submitted in the 2013-2014 session and will be resubmitted for the 2015-2016 session in Massachusetts.  This bill has been passed in 19 states as of August 2014.  Erin’s Law provides continuing professional development activities, including participation in or presenting at in-service training programs on sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention. The Educational Curriculum requires age-appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education in grades Pre-kindergarten through 12th grades along with training school staff on the prevention of sexual abuse.  
  • Neighborhood Info Session & Networking – during these cozy seminars – we review existing statistics, body safety, signs to watch out for (preventative), signs to be wary of (reactive) and how to lead the way in protecting your community.  We provide the basics to protect the children and advocate in the community.  Ample Q&A time is scheduled into this meeting to answer all of your questions.
